I am a self-taught artist who specializes in Calligraphy and the fine art paintings of rural scenery, foreign places, floral still-life and seascapes. My mother is French and my father was Cherokee. I was truly inspired by my grandmother, Alma Sequin, to begin with pen-at-hand the art of calligraphy. My grandmother, born in Montreal Quebec, was also a self-taught artist. Her paintings reflect artistic techniques that are seldom seen today. I once read that calligraphy is generally applied to writing, but may also be used as a painting technique. By using arbitrary brushstrokes to suggest something rather than define it, allows the viewer to interpret what the strokes mean while giving life to an otherwise dull area of a painting. Having never had any formal art training, I have acquired methods through trial and error; paying strict attention to detail and various techniques. Although my true passion is painting, I enjoy creating wreaths,swags,floral arrangements and wooden plaques for the holidays or everyday home decor.
