Sara Feltner's Profile

About

I am Sara and as the artist behind Cerulean Rabbit, I am a self-proclaimed craft addict. Neither you nor I ever really know what might pop out of my head at any given moment. But you can always be sure that everything here is made with the love, care, and the professionalism that every work of art deserves. Each piece is unique with a character all its own.

Like a style but don’t see your size? See your size but missing your favorite color? Some textiles are in limited supply and many items are one of a kind, but drop me a line and we’ll work something out. For the most part, this only applies to costume pieces.

::~:: Bio ::~::

Born in Chicagoland but raised on grits, I have always had the need to be creating something. I’m always trying new things and sticking my fingers in all sorts of jars. (Something I still do!)

::~:: Schooling & Inspiration ::~::

I received my BFA from the Savannah College of art and design. Painting and drawing captured my heart as a child and I’ve never stopped since. My medium of choice is oils on wood panel but really I’ll use whatever is at hand.

What inspires the fine art that leaks form my head is the spiritual, the mythological, the scientific, and the mysterious. Sometimes whimsical, sometimes downright scary, but always from within and truthful.

::~:: Belly Dance ::~::

While honing my painting style and skill, I discovered the wonderful art of belly dance. A style of dance that I felt a deeper connection to then any other dance form I’ve tried before. Plus, having never grown out of playing dress up, I got that extra jingle-jangly bonus.

My costumes are inspired by an amalgam of things around me. For the most part, I draw back to historical clothing, traditional ethnic costume, myth and old stories from around the world, even architectural design. It’s this combination that I’ve discovered creates a new ‘traditional’ costume that compliments a new ‘traditional’ dance.

::~:: Historical Costume ::~::

All of my historical costuming provided has been researched to the best of my ability, bringing you something special from the past. Some pieces feature modern conveniences disguised into the final costume. These pieces will distinctly be labeled as such and modifications are only for comfort and convenience of the wearer. All pieces of garb are designed from historical patterns. As a member of the SCA for a good amount of time, I understand the importance of such details. Perfect for faire, SCA, larp, reenactment, or any other time you need some historical garb.

::~:: Everything Else ::~::

For everything else, what can I say? I love giving new life to old things and old traditions, giving the world a little more character.
