Charlotte C. Brown's Profile

About

Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Charlotte. That's me!

My sister, Judy, and I loved playing with dolls together...each in our own way. She liked designing their clothes and dressing them. I especially enjoyed accessorizing them and styling their hair.

One day, my mother told me, "You are really too old to play with dolls." I felt devastated! Some of my most fun times would come to to an end.

I grew up and received my degree in Education. After graduation, I worked as a TWA airline hostess, flying to Europe each week. from New York. This job made it possible for me to see the world, and I learned the importance of providing great customer service.

After 2 years, I returned to Portland, accepted a job as a public school teacher, attended night school, and earned a Masters Degree in Education.

I taught school for 10 years. married, resigned from teaching, and our little daughter entered our lives. This was the time I started designing decorative pillows and dolls for an art gallery show.

Soon I founded Collectable Creations and brought my sister, Judy, on board. Together we produced predominantly a Christmas line of Sparkle Snowmen, Santas, and Angels. We designed them, coordinated fabrics, accessorized them and added quality and details to each piece. The company grew into a nationally marketed holiday gift product line, bringing art and business together.

Collectable Creations wholesaled gift items to thousands of gift stores and to department stores such as Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus and Gumps. The Sparkle Snowmen even graced the covers of Harry & David's Catalog and Country Folk Art Magazine.

The gift industry was hit hard after September 11, 2001, and we closed Collectable Creations in 2003 after 22 years.

I renewed my interest in designing dolls. In fact, all kinds of ideas poured in, especially when I slept. This time, I wanted to design detailed, signed, one-of-a kind dolls. I hope you love these Sparkle-Cheeked, CharlotteStyle, handcrafted dolls as much as I love making them.

Since I started making OOAK art dolls, I became interest in designing and creating many other items....cats, pincushions, owls, snowmen, hearts, etc.

I am really not too old to play with dolls!
