I took my first ceramics class in 1990 and quickly came to love the medium. I have found making lovely things from clay a most 'centering' and also preoccupying endeavor. I love creating art that is both beautiful and functional and which encourages the user to slow down and enjoy that coffee or meal in a deeper way. In fact, I rotate my collection of cups daily so that I use a different mug each morning; one of my own or one that I have collected from another artist. This encourages a savoring and even a reflective mood as I wrap my fingers around the mug and remember its making or from whom I bought it and draw in its warmth from the hot brew as well as from its aesthetic and historical qualities.
