Emily Clementine Spykman's Profile

About

I am a creator, and I always have been. From the earliest trips to bead stores, to my recent two month class at a crafts school, my whole life has centered around finding the right outlet for my need to make things. I found it! It's jewelry. (well, I knew that all along, but I just had to give up doing a million other things TOO.)

I make every effort in all my endeavors to be as sustainable and gentle on this Earth as I can be. To that end I:

*Use recycled metals when available
*Repurpose discarded jewelry, buttons, leather, chains, fasteners, castoffs and odds and ends that I find and/or am given
*Always try to repair before I replace, whether it be a tool, or a piece of jewelry gone awry

*Use biodegradable plastic zipper bags in my packaging
*Use recycled paper jewelry presentation boxes
*Ship items in reused envelopes/ boxes with reused stuffing and fillers
*Limit the use of noxious glues and chemicals to only necessary applications (I try to make mechanical connections as often as I can with rivets, wire, brackets, sewing, etc)
*Dispose of all chemicals in environmentally healthy and respectful ways

There are some things that I must use as a metalsmith which I know are not good for this earth, such as acetylene, pickle (a strong acid), and flux. I try to use them sparingly and conscientiously with an eye to conservation and the "reduce" of the "Three R's"

I very much enjoy taking custom orders, just send me a message and I look forward to working with you!

Enjoy your visit!
