About

I have been designing and making jewelry for over 18 years. I have always been attracted to gemstones and have always been into art of all kinds. I am self-taught, and have learned jewelry making through trial and error, but that is the fun of it! I have been selling my jewelry since 1998, with 10 years at the Asheville Regional Airport, various craft fairs, and I currently have several local shops waiting on me to set them up (I wish I had more energy to do everything I want to!). I have had my jewelry travel the world, and have even had celebrity clients (no names, for their privacy). Now I am offering unique personalized awareness jewelry, personalized charms, and metalwork jewelry! I have been wanting to get into metal working for years, and I have now completed my first year with this part of the craft.
Here is a little backstory on how I came to be on Etsy.....I took a 2 year hiatus to battle advanced cervical…

Here is a little backstory on how I came to be on Etsy.....I took a 2 year hiatus to battle advanced cervical cancer (due to misdiagnosis & meds that were prescribed for the misdiagnosis helped the tumor advance). Since then I have had many health problems stem from the radiation treatments, including ongoing kidney failure. The kidney failure part has meant that I have to have a tube in each kidney coming out of my back to an external collection system, making me very susceptable to infection and sepsis. I continue to fight for survival daily, and find that the best way to keep my sanity is to create. I try to work on jewelry daily, but sometimes my healthcare schedule dominates, or I am just plain tuckered out. Creating and making pieces is what I look forward to when I open my eyes in the morning. I had always dreamt of being able to do this full time, and I would have never guessed that the way it would happen would stem from such a terrible experience. To have something good come from something bad is the most desirable outcome. I consider myself very blessed and lucky to be able to pursue this avenue!
I live in a very remote place, Cruso, in the Pisgah National Forest in the mountains of North Carolina. In fact, I am very fortunate to be living in my dream home in the shadows of Cold Mountain, known by many from the Charles Frazier novel. I live in a cedar log cabin on a mountainside just to the southeast of Cold Mountain. The incredible natural beauty and energy of the area lends itself to my inspiration and creativity. Many of my jewelry designs are inspired by the multitude of colors, textures, sounds and sights of the forest and surrounding mountains.
I should also mention that this area of NC has over 56 different gems and minerals just below the surface. I have been gem mining in the area since I was a young child. I have been working on getting those stones cleaned up for use in a line of jewelry that I plan to put out hopefully in 2013, but it could be 2014 before I get it all done. Custom orders are welcomed, as are any comments or inquiries. Thank you for stopping in to check out my shop!

Following is my version of a PSA. Caution: Not a fun subject..but not graphic. Please read:

~Women, girls, chickies, all females~Please learn from my mistakes and get yourself checked out!!! I cannot stress the importance of this!!! I am living proof of what can happen to you if you neglect your health. Be proactive about your health, and if you don't agree with what you hear, get a 2nd opinion. It is your right to do so, don't worry about offending your doctor. If you are shy or embarassed, just remember, if you don't get checked for cancers of the reproductive organs, you will have more than one person investigating your nether regions. Not to mention the damage that the treatments to save your life causes. I am a whisper of what I once was. I wish I could go back and smack myself and tell my younger me how important this is. Please learn from my experience, because I guarantee you do not want to go through what I did. Early detection is key to be able to rid yourself of the cancer and keep your reproductive organs. I didn't have that option, and now I cannot have children. Right smack in the childbearing years of life. If you have never been checked out or it's been a long time since your last appointment, please make an appointment today! Please, for your own health and happiness, make that appointment. A few minutes of discomfort compared to a lifetime of intense pain, scarring, damage, inability to have children , inability to be physically intimate, becoming disabled, subsequent organ failure in other parts of your body, and don't forget the chances of relapse and survival rates. Ladies, nothing is more important than this. If you have questions (no matter how candid or personal it is), have been through a battle with cancer, need some motivation, have lost a family member or friend to cancer, or just want to talk, feel free to send me an email. I hope that I can save at least one woman from having to go through what I did and am still going through.

***10% of all proceeds from sales of awareness jewelry will be donated to the American Cancer Society on a quarterly basis.***
