About

Everyone has something in life that they ‘need’ to do. I need to express myself artistically. Through the years I’ve had many ways that I’ve expressed myself. When my boys were young I began hand-painting clothing before it was a popular art/craft show thing. I’ve made beads and pins with Fimo and Sculpey clay for many years. Tile mosaics kept my attention for a while. Recently I also became very involved with wood burning (pyrography) on wood and gourds.

About 10 years ago, with the death of a loved one, I needed something that I could totally immerse myself in. I took a pottery class at a city recreation facility. I was hooked!

It provided me with something to totally concentrate on and lose myself in. When carving clay hours seem like minutes. Carving has become my ‘me’ and meditation time. At night when waiting for sleep new carving patterns and ideas flit through my head. When my husband sees a far away look in my eyes he comments, ‘You’re thinking about pottery (carving), aren’t you?’ He has golf, I have pottery!

By day, for the past 13 years, I am a Long Term Care Ombudsman for the Area Agency on Aging. I am a resident rights expert for people in nursing homes and personal care. I help them with complaints and mediate between them and the facility administration. I absolutely love this job and that is the reason that I’m not a full time clay carver!

Every time someone says that they like my pottery and style of work it truly amazes me! I just can’t believe that what I consider to be doodling in clay is art?!

Thank you for your interest in my clay. Please keep checking back at my site…. my brain keeps ticking with ideas for carvings!
