"On the road again..." these words used to describe my present life better than anything else...

My name is Lisa Carter and I am a mom to three wonderful kids and a wife to the greatest man...

We are from Grand Rapids, MI, but for several years we called Kiev, Ukraine our "home-away-from-home". We also travel quite a bit throughout Europe and some in Asia.

While living in Kiev, I met Ellen Phillip who shared my love for all things handmade as well as all things vintage. Ellen and I went to antique markets, small antique shops from forgotten side streets and even flea markets where at times we had to get pretty close to the ground to see all the unusual things spread for sale on someone's blanket.

"On the road again..." these words used to describe my present life better than anything else...

In summer of '12 my family and I moved back to our favorite home, Grand Rapids, MI, while Ellen remained in Kiev continuing her "treasure hunting." While in GR I am still looking for vintage and antique things at estate sales and auctions.

Most of the things in our store will still come from Kiev, Ukraine while some from Michigan. Don't be surprised if you receive more than one package if you have a larger order mailed from either Ukraine or Michigan.

We love all things vintage but look at vintage items through the eyes of a mixed media artist rather than a collector (though there are probably no found object artists who do not collect, i.e., hoard all the weird objects that come to them.)

We want to fill this store with the most amusing, strange and unique items one can find. They come from an antiquarian bookstore in the back streets of Budapest, the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, from an antique key display at my favorite St. Ouen in Paris ...or... from my friend's kitchen table after he came back from his private archaeological digs somewhere south...

That's us ~ always looking for more gorgeous and unique stuff, never happy that the day has only 24 hours ~ not enough time to create with all we find...

If you have some ideas of what you would like me to look for while I am on the road, please convo. I love to hear from my present or future customers...

Thanks for stopping by and reading this long bio.

P.S. A few words about our "creative descriptions" when it comes to some of the items we are listing. For example, we would write: "He used this key to hit Russian Tzar over the head... because he didn't like the smell of the Tzar's cologne..."

Some of you wrote to know what happened next. Did the Tzar hit him back? Invited for a nightcap? Became his bosom friend? Well, I don't know. We made it up to make you chuckle when you read our crazy (and, hopefully, funny descriptions.) Life is too serious and we all need things that would make us laugh. So, if we brightened up your day, great! We are happy.

When we write that something was found in an archaeological dig or that an item is from XVIII century, that really is true... No joke here...

Have a great day!
