Alex Covarrubias' Profile
... just a Chicanita transplanted to the big bad Midwest from little-ol' Los Angeles trying to get by. I miss my familia, the sound of Spanish being spoken all around me, and fish tacos so I create art objects to stave off the homesickness and the inevitable snow-induced cabin fever.
Gloria Anzaldúa describes the relationship between art and life writing “…my people, the Indians, did not split the artistic from the functional, the sacred from the secular, art from everyday life.” It is precisely this marriage between art and everyday life that defines what I do. My hands recreate the world around me; the world I grew up in. My shop reflects summers spent in Mexico, afternoons reading "Love & Rockets," and a lifetime love affair with all things connected to La Lotería and el Dia de los Muertos.
I am a proud member of "Etsy Artists of Color" and Ets…
