Welcome to the Mayberry Sparrow!
I'm kind of a scattered artist, interested in all of it and have not near enough time to complete everything I can think of.

I get spurts of creativity that often become overwhelming.
This is a perfect place to share all my random little bits of creative overload, be it sewing, painting, drawing, art cards, quilting, name it:)

Reason behind the name?

Mayberry was is my grandmother's maiden name. And SHE is one crafty lady, just like her mother before her.

My great grandmother, Eva, would even develop her own film, in her own darkroom, in the 30s!

I love the stories my mom tells about her grandma, how she was always trying neat, different things. How she would make foreign foods for my mom and her siblings to try. She even made real fortune cookies when my mom was little! I never knew my great grandma, she died shortly before i was born. But i know her through the stories my mother tells, and love her for what she's done for my mother.

Eva's daughter, Evelyn, is my grandma. She has been such an influence in my art. I remember sitting on her lap when i was pretty little, and she'd show me how to paint little things, how to pick the right colors, how know the right proportions and angle a little birds leg's just right. She also taught me how to quilt, darn socks, and even make soap!

My mother picked up both of their creativity and has taught me everything she knows, from sewing to cooking, to drawing and painting.

She always did and still does encourage my sisters and I to create.

She would let us do a lot of things that most people would probably think we were too young for. But she gave us the benefit of the doubt.

I remember asking my mom for an 'easy bake oven' for Christmas one year when I was about 6, and she said, "corrie, why? Just use the real oven!"

She would let me bake extravagant cakes, with tiers, and let us use all her little cake tips and cover an entire cake with roses, just for fun.

Mom would even let us use her sewing machine when we were fairly small, show us how to ruffle a doll dress, or even put in zippers.

My youngest sister, Elise, pretty much seized the sewing machine at around age 8 and started making unbelievable things, without patterns or anything. My mom would wonder what she was up to, go upstairs and find out that she had sewn herself a fabulous dress.

When I was about 11 my parents let us buy pocket knives with some birthday money. I think its the only tool they lived to regret...

My younger sister, Lindi, was carving in the grass and cut herself. (this was nothing really unusual for Lindi, she was always finding ways to hurt herself).
After she cut herself, she threw the knife in the grass, and ran in the house.

I got up and ran after her and sliced my foot pretty badly on her discarded knife! After that, the knives went on top of the fridge for several more years.

I realize now that I am a mom, how much time she sacrificed supervising our then, dangerous little craft parties.
Glue guns, scissors, sewing machines, ovens, wood burners. Oh, and the messes!

Bowls of batter, icing, scraps of leather, yarn, and the wire, and cutters from my 'Chain mail armor' phase...

She put up with a lot, to say the least.

So the name Mayberry, is really a tribute to three wonderful women, My great grandma, my grandma, and my mother, without them I may never have learned to love creation the way I do.

And the sparrow part? We've flown north! All of our family is still in Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska, but we're now in Canada.

Policy for Using Copyrighted Stamps

My stamps are my designs, and therefore copyrighted. If you would like to use them for anything other than personal work, on anything that is to be sold, please contact me before hand. I do grant permission in most cases, providing you mention my name/shop in a line of credit in your listing.
If you need a stamp designed for use on items you are selling, I can do this.
However, if you wish the design to be exclusively by you and not duplicated, there will be an additional fee, for buying the exclusive rights of use to my design.

If the stamp is a design that you've provided, then obviously it will not be copyrighted to me, and you can use it however you please.

Shipping

I ship with Canada Post. For most non-customized rubber stamps and paper items, your item is created and shipped within 5 business days.

For personalized/custom rubber stamps, please allow 14 business days from your time of purchase for your item to be mailed.

If you purchase a custom stamp and you do not already have a font/image and idea of exactly what you want, please allow extra time for design.

Once you and I agree on the design, and your stamp is paid for, then I can begin.
Design fees may be applicable depending on the nature of your stamp, and the amount of design time I must put in to your stamp.

TRACKING
I generally do not ship with tracking, as Canada Post charges substantially more for this. If you do require tracking though, please notify me before hand and I can calculate what the shipping will be. For larger orders, it may not be that much more.

Shipping times vary when mailing outside of Canada, due to customs etc, so I cannot guarantee shipping times. Most items take anywhere from 9-15 business days, and on occasion a bit longer.
If you need guaranteed shipping time for a certain item, (that birthday card or baby shower present) contact me before hand and I can find a shipping method that is faster, and give you an estimate.

INSURANCE: Shipping from Canada with insurance is extremely expensive. So expensive in fact, that if i charged you for it, you wouldnt be buying any of my items. Therefore im self-insured. Meaning, I charge slightly more for shipping, even when combined, than the actual cost of shipping. If your item should go missing, or arrive damaged, I will replace it, from my "insurance fund". So please dont be alarmed if you buy, for example 5 stamps, and are charged $7 shipping, and the parcel arrives with $3 postage. No, the parcel will not be insured by the post office. But it is still insured, and that $4 paid for it.

To My International Customers:

I do not collect any customs when sending our packages. Any customs fees, taxes, tariffs, duties, etc. that may be incurred at the time of delivery would be at the discretion of your country's tax regulations. I have no way of calculating how much these fees would be, should they occur, and The Mayberry Sparrow is not responsible for those charges. Returns will not be accepted due to customs fees.
I cannot lie on customs forms, and mark it as a gift when it is not. This is illegal.
The value declared on your package will be what you paid for the item. (less shipping)

Return Policy

All sales are final on Custom orders and Rubber Stamps. Other items are reviewed on an individual basis, and may be exchanged for store credit.
Exceptions to this would be damage, in which case you would be allotted store credit for the value of the item, or the item can be replaced.
If an item does arrive damaged, please contact me with a photo of the damaged item.
