April Cummins' Profile

About

Greetings! My name is April and I currently reside in Portland, Oregon. I have an uncontrollable urge to create and that has led me down many different paths, working with various mediums. What I really love is combining art and functionality. Since I am such a practical person, it's my natural inclination. Although, sometimes, I just want to make art for art's sake, hence my wallhangings. I have a passion for primitive skills, and traditional crafts.

I have been developing my skills in leatherwork over the last few years. I was introduced to leatherworking by a dear friend and being a seamstress, I picked it up quickly. Greetings! My name is April and I currently reside in Portland, Oregon. I have an uncontrollable urge to create and that has led me down many different paths, working with various mediums. What I really love is combining art and functionality. Since I am such a practical person, it's my natural inclination. I have been developing my skills in leatherwork over the last few years. I was introduced to leatherworking by a dear friend and being a seamstress, I picked it up quickly. My brothers are hunters so I was able to get hides from them to experiment with. Recently, I learned how to braintan buckskin which has added another level to my fascination with the craft. I use mostly scrap leather in an attempt to make use of what might tend to go to waste otherwise. Finding ways to work with what I can get adds greatly to my creative process.

I learned how to do "landscape quilting" from an amazing artist, Laura Fogg. Since, I have developed my own style and it is constantly evolving. It is a totally captivating art form that brings me much joy and satisfaction.

I feel so blessed to offer these gifts! Every one-of-a-kind piece is completely hand made with love and care. Thanks for checking out my work!
