Jenny Pollard's Profile

About

My name is Jenny Pollard and I am a slave to Art. I can’t escape my fate. If I don’t create, I wilt and begin to fade. When I allow myself to tune in and create, I thrive.

For me art is everywhere, you just have to be able to see it. I am constantly inspired by the world around me. The feelings and images that come to me when I am inspired by the wonders that surround us are a major influence in my work.

I work with a wide range of themes, textures, media and subjects, but am drawn to the sea, and sea themes. I am also fascinated by earth energies and the beauty of the tropical atmosphere in South Venice Florida, where I currently live with my husband, and our handsome Maine Coon Cat, Mufasa.

My husband, John, brought the seashore and the Appalachian Mountains together in my life.

We met almost seven years ago at a remote, primitive, beach campground on Ocracoke Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I was living in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, but went to Ocracoke, one of my most favorite places, to recover from a serious illness. To make a long story short, I was having trouble putting up my borrowed, and very unusual, tent when John came over to help me. We married one year to the day after we met and I moved, with two of my children, to his home in the mountains. We later designed and (had) built a beautiful home on a mountain. We visit Ocracoke as often as we can.

I have always been a creative person, but am currently focusing on my art (and family), vs. career, for the first time in my life. However, until recently I was an Art Teacher for many years and also worked with Çommercial Art for a short period before that.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education as well as an Associates degree in Commercial Art from the University Of Akron. I taught art to children for over 18 years. I loved connecting with my students and helping them see and do things they had often never seen or done before. Successes in my classroom were acknowledged by awards I received for teaching, including Teacher Of the Year, 2002/2003, and awards given to students under my guidance.

Today I am busy with creating art in my studio and painting wall murals for clients. I am currently focusing on mixed–media in my own work, examples of which may be seen in galleries along the Outer Banks of North Carolina and soon a gallery near Venice Florida.

I miss teaching and over the summer I hold art classes for children in grades K-12 My mixed –media, project-oriented, art classes are a joy for both me and my students, who create works that teach them about art, themselves, and the world around them.
