About

Hi my name is Crystal,

I have been creating jewelry since 2005 . I was always a creative little kid growing up, a craftaholic we'll say. In the past 7 years I've enjoyed studying photography, sculpture, film and fashion history. My love of jewelry making really flourished while I was working at an awesome little bead store in Abbotsford, called Strung Out on Beads. I couldn't have asked to be at a more inspiring and supportive workplace. I learned so much from my friends/colleges and customers. During my time at the bead store I took great pride in helping people come up with their own creative design and help them through the construction process. I also helped make store samples and occasionally taught the odd class here and there.

When creating a piece a lot of my core values go into it. I stay honest and true to myself and my customers, I would…

I stay honest and true to myself and my customers, I would never put something up for sell that I wasn't confident in the construction. I construct each piece with the best industry knowledge that I had learned and shared with all customers at the bead store. I also stay true to my community and purchase all of my supplies from independent bead store or the occasional thrift stores that support local social services and hospitals.

Most of my creative inspiration comes from my materials. I buy my materials because I love them and they interest me, I love to sit and ponder about all the different techniques and ways I could use my materials. Other than that I would say that I am highly inspired by nature I am drawn to more organic materials. Semi precious stone and wood are two of my favorite things to work with; I am always impressed by the natural colors and inclusions of each stone. I tend to navigate to large stones as well as ones with natural rough cuts and hand facets. I tend to pick are fun and vibrant colors for my pieces. I am forever trying to increase my arsenal of skills such as: stringing, wire-work, precious metal clay, beadwork, stitch-work, stone drilling, stamping and metal cutting. My favorite thing to create is large statement and theatrical pieces. The last large piece I made entered in the 2008 Swarovski create your style completion where I placed 6th in North America. The finished piece was two feet long with inter-linked graduating rings wire-worked with Swarovski crystal modeled after naturally occurring fractal patterns.

If I'm not getting myself in to some crafty project then I'm most like working as a nurse, yoga, roller derby, practicing sustainable gardening with my hubby, or sipping tea and cuddling my sweet lil pooch.

Well that's me, hopefully I get the chance to know a bit about you :)
