About the artist:
Essie Way Martin was 6 years old when she fell in love with horses. That was the day she first beheld the golden glory of a palomino in his summer pasture, gilded by the sun. From then on, all her meager childhood allowances were eagerly hoarded to buy hours on rented horses' backs.

She was grown and living in Turkey, however, before she ever had a horse to call her own. He was a tall, red 4 year-old, retired from the race tracks in Istanbul. His name was Koshu, meaning "run," and he lived to prove his name every day. The exhilaration of galloping him was like racing the wind, while all your troubles blew away in the dust behind you, and your heart leapt forward with his, pounding with joy. Some of that joyous exhilaration can be found invested in each of the small paintings of the “Horse Nation Creations.”

Mother to a grown daughter and son, with 2 other sons in heaven, Essie is now primary caretaker for her elderly parents, who have lived with her and her patient husband for the past 10 1/2 years. This daily care makes it practically impossible for her to participate in regional arts and craft shows for sales of her art, and so she is especially grateful to Etsy for providing online shop opportunities.

Essie has lived in several different parts of the world, with each place adding its own unique deposits of richness to her life. She has worked as an artist and a graphic artist since the early eighties, and also as a muralist from 1995-2007. In addition, she is a published writer with a deeply spiritual and creative soul. God is her source and her joy, and may He receive all the glory!
