Stephanie Boon's Profile

About

Hello and welcome!

I’m Stephanie Boon, known as Stephie. I’m an artist and designer and like to express myself mainly through textiles and drawing or gouache painting.

My full name’s Stephanie Dawn Boon, which might give you a clue to my studio name! As a child I used to get up before dawn and go and listen to the dawn chorus on the marshes with my dad, and the bird has been a favourite motif and metaphor in my art and stitchery ever since.

I had a flair for art and textiles from an early age and continued to study both throughout school in London, going on to achieve an MA in fine art, from what’s now called Falmouth University, in the beautiful county of Cornwall where I still live today.

These days my studio is a small space at home, full of natural light with a view over…

These days my studio is a small space at home, full of natural light with a view over the garden (and the bird table!). I have drawers full of pastels and pencils, brushes and watercolours, and shelves and baskets full of fabrics. I sew on an old sewing machine, Mrs Jones, which has served me well for over 25 years, but my real love is hand sewing.

I love to create quilts and quilted items from natural fibres in contemporary fabric designs from designers like Kaffe Fassett and Philip Jacobs. It's especially important to me to create something from nothing, to explore an idea and see it become a reality from drawing a design through the process of making. This means I only ever make one of anything, so if you buy anything from me you'll be assured of it's uniqueness and creative integrity.

I hope you'll stay a while for a browse around my little shop, and if you have any questions I'd love to have a chat so feel free to drop me a line :)

Thanks for stopping by
