Dean Kincaid's Profile
Retired with a wood shop. Enjoy being creative making useful items from wood that would be left to rot or burned.
My favorite is Intarsia. This ancient craft is very labor intensive. It is like painting with wood, using the color and grain of the wood to make a picture. Each piece is entirely hand made one at a time. It is cut with a scroll saw and shaped with various sanders. Final sanding is by hand and final polishing is with a really fine grit flap sander. There is no assembly line at my shop.
Each piece is different even if made from the same pattern. Different woods are used in each intarsia. I gaurantee that all of the wood I use is from dead trees. Most of the wood used has been sawed by me from local timber.
My shop is a no smoking zone, except for the occasional wisp of smoke when I am loading the wood stove that is my source of heat…
