About

I really enjoy the creative process, the inspiration from within. When I'm in the studio and things are flowing, all is right with the world!

I majored in art at Antioch college in Ohio, in the 70's. I have an art studio in Seattle, WA, where I have taught watercolor classes for 10 years and art demos and workshops at the Daniel Smith art store in Seattle, WA.

Encaustic is a 2000 year-old technique (used on the mummy cases), that can be done with a variety of materials and tools. The basic process usually involves melted beeswax or paraffin wax with dry pigment and resin added, that is painted while hot on a rigid support, then fused into the previous layers with a heat source.

As the melted wax immediately hardens when removed from it's heat source, the technique involves a lot of fast work and pre-planning. Many layers can be involved and a multitude of materials and objects can be incorporated. It is a very durable and archival medium.
