About

Delaforja and me: How it all began and what it’s all about...

Delaforja means “From the Forge” in Spanish and is a culmination of my connection with this ancient artisan craft and its rich history in the Toledo, Spain region. I originally came to Toledo from Australia in 2001 and have since dedicated many years learning the ancient metalworking arts and perfecting the techniques that I apply to my creations today.

I am dedicated to the production of works of the highest quality and all the items on sale are designed and individually hand crafted by me in my studio. Each one is unique and special.

My aim is to influence contemporary design trends towards incorporating concepts of longevity and symbolic significance to our functional, everyday objects. I think beyond the modern day concept of “design for disassembly” and consider the everyday object as having lasting value, functionality and restorability for many generations to come.

For inspiration I search history and pre history for “charged symbols” that we’ve evolved with for millions of years. These shapes and motifs have been originally derived from the intricate symmetries of the natural world. I want my pieces to reflect respect and veneration for Mother Earth and appreciation of authentic, ancient metalworking crafts.

If there is a design in the range of items that you would like to personalize in some way, for example a different color or size, I am happy to accommodate. We can also discuss custom orders for designs that are not part my shop range (please refer to my shop policy page for more info on how to request and place an order).

Visit my website (www.delaforja.com) to see the range of styles I work in and objects I build in metal. This includes original art and antique reproduction.
