Diana Marsh's Profile

About

My name is Diana Marsh and I am the owner of Thistle & Bess, a home and lifestyle boutique in Ann Arbor, MI. I have a passion for traveling and collecting treasures along the way. I am extremely interested in history, particularly British Royalty. I love collecting antiquarian books, prints, and of course vintage and antique charms and pendants. This passion for history drives me to seek beautiful and unusual trinkets that tell a story. I typically hunt for vintage sterling silver charms from the 1950’s and 60’s and antique brass and enamel charms and pendants from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. I also have a deep appreciation for the natural world, which is featured heavily in my work. My shop name, Thistle & Bess was inspired by my Scottish and English heritage. The tough but beautiful thistle is the emblem of Scotland and Bess is for Queen Elizabeth I, nicknamed “Good Queen Bess.”…

The tough but beautiful thistle is the emblem of Scotland and Bess is for Queen Elizabeth I, nicknamed “Good Queen Bess.”

I create reworked vintage and antique necklaces with charms and pendants that have been collected over the years from flea markets, estate sales and family inheritances. My specialties are my antique book necklaces, which were popular European souvenirs in both the Victorian era and the 1950’s. Not only are the book necklaces beautiful with intricate details, but also each rare little treasure has a hidden story inside.

Many of my charm necklaces are one of a kind- a piece of the past that has been reinvented to make a modern style statement. Each necklace has its own unique story. Choosing Thistle & Bess is like wearing a piece of history around your neck.
