Doug Walpus' Profile

About

I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and spent most of my childhood in Omaha, Nebraska. I have a great love for the outdoors and spent almost every free moment visiting every field and lake I could travel to.

My first brush to canvas that was noticed by others began in six grade and resulted in an honorable mention gold key award that year. This was the start of a life long endeavor to recreate nature’s beauty. I am a self taught artist but owe a great deal of my development to the inspiration provided by other great artists that I admired. Most of my work is a combination of field trips with a camera and my memory of nature’s beauty.

My wife and I started a business called Reflections in Wildlife 8 years ago. This was due to our love for wildlife and eagerness to share it with others. This has enabled me to pursue a career in wildlife art and…

This has enabled me to pursue a career in wildlife art and through our business we are able to provide funds for the protection of wildlife habitat through our donations. We donate 10% of duck related art sales to Ducks Unlimited and 10% of all other wildlife related sales to Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency. Without my wife help running the computer end of the business I would not have time to paint, design and create my wildlife art.

Some of my accomplishments include commission work for Ducks Unlimited in Gallatin, Tennessee, commission work for the Gulf Coast conservation league in San Antonio, Texas and commission work for the Nebraska game commission in Ashland, Nebraska. .

My wife encouraged me to enter several state duck and habitat stamp contest in 2008. Since then my accomplishments are as follows: 2008 & 2009 Top 20 in the Federal Duck Stamp, 2009 Honorable Mention in Oklahoma duck stamp, 2009 Honorable Mention Delaware Trout Stamp, 2009 Merit Award Wyoming Habitat Stamp, 2010 Michigan Duck Stamp 5th Place, 2010 Ohio Wetlands Stamp 3rd Place, 2010 Nevada Duck Stamp 3rd Place, 2010 Delaware Trout Stamp Honorable Mention & 3rd Place and 2010 Colorado Duck Stamp 2nd Place.
