About 20 years ago, I walked into a restaurant in Lafayette, LA named Bailey's (the place is still there...great food). In the wall between the bar and the dining room there is a sheet of glass, about 1/2" thick, with the restaurant's logo etched into it. Hidden in the wall, around the perimeter of the glass, is what I can only guess is flourescent lighting, which caused the logo in the glass to glow. I always thought is was a great effect, and wondered what I could do with it.
About a year ago, I was looking around on instructables.com. I saw someone had taken LED's and watch batteries, and made some lighted place cards out of acrylic, with the same effect as Bailey's sign.
