Eleanor Gilpatrick's Profile

About

Hi,
My name is Eleanor Gilpatrick. I am a fine art painter of landscapes, people, still lifes, and abstracts. A contemporary realist, my strengths are in my use of color and composition, with sometimes surprising takes on content. When I came back to art, I started by doing drawings and working in oil, but now I work in acrylic on stretched canvas with painted sides. Some of my work is framed.

I was once a professor at the School of Health Sciences, Hunter College, City University of New York; I authored four books, directed a masters program in health services administration, and pioneered courses in critical thinking and writing. About

Hi,
My name is Eleanor Gilpatrick.

But I came back to my first love, painting, and I never look back.

When I came back to painting I was moved to paint affirmations of life and a celebration of beauty; but I have also painted beauty contrasted with the "terrible" in the real world of our time. I juxtaposed images of the Iraqi war and other terrifying events with serene and beautiful scenes of American life. Some of my work is based on images found in public photos. I hope that people will connect with what is going on "In The World", and now, especially, climate change.

I have had solo shows in Manhattan, including the Bulgarian Consulate, and have had works on display throughout the year in Havre de Grace, MD. I have been in over 35 juried shows since 1999. An article on the development of my palette appeared in American Artist Magazine, November 2002. A column about my Aquarium Series appeared in Watermarks, Summer 2006. My painting, The Shell Monument, was the August selection in The Emerging Artists 2007 Calendar.

Each of my paintings is signed and dated on the back. I send a letter of provenance when a piece sells, which increases the value of the work. All my artwork is copyrighted by Eleanor Gilpatrick. Copyright is nontransferable through the purchase of artwork. I offer free shipping. Please write to me if you have any questions.
