Marisa Hopkins' Profile

About

I love my husband and my daughters. I love my mom and my brother, and my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends...

...And I love my colored pencils. Oh, how I love those colored pencils!

My colored pencil love affair began at the tender age of 10 when I received my first professional set of colored pencils as a present from my grandma for not scratching my chicken pox bumps.

It was love at first sight. Maybe that is why I can't shake the colored pencil. You never forget your first crush... and mine happened to be for a pack of 60 gorgeous black Design Spectracolor pencils with lovely colored tips.

I remember it well... the hours I used to spend holed up in my studio (aka my bedroom) while all the other kids were…

I remember it well... the hours I used to spend holed up in my studio (aka my bedroom) while all the other kids were out at the mall, just rearranging my pencils so that the colored tips looked beautiful next to each other.

I kept sketchbook upon sketchbook, always filled with colored pencil illustrations that I drew with my beloved Design Spectracolors.... things haven't changed much in the last 18 years.

Hello, hello, and welcome to my little illustration shop.

My name is Marisa and I am an artist with a passionate love for colored pencils. I've spent the last 18 years playing around with techniques, especially the blending and burnishing it takes to get colors so vibrant they pop off the page. I'm clearly a HUGE fan of saturated color.

I graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Creative Arts. I hope to one day be a published author/illustrator of books for children, but in the meantime, I am a stay-at-home mom with two darling little girls who keep me very, very busy!

You can find Tootsie and Gracie, the collaborative shop I have with my daughter Gracie (she was 3 when we opened the shop) at http://tootsieandgrace.etsy.com
