I am blessed to come from a long line of creative women who have diligently passed on the art of creating to each new generation. My brilliantly gifted grandmothers, Elizabeth (a poetry-quoting writer at heart) and Rosalee (a generous artist extraordinaire), have contributed much to who I am today. I am their namesake, and now, so is my shop.

While growing up, I thrived on the gypsy lifestyle of the adventurous, weekend art shows I traveled to with my mom, grandma, and aunt, who each worked full-time making and selling their handmade creations.

They encouraged and inspired me to create, and I started selling my drawings and beaded jewelry at a young age.

My mother, a third generation artist, took me to endless fabric shops when I was a girl, always sewing clothes for us and her thriving clothing business. At home, I would spend hours pouring over her fabric scraps; cutting, folding, writing receipts, and hand sewing my own creations. I have been sewing since I can remember, apprenticed by my mother.

My love affair with fabric, design, and textures that began at a young age still flourishes today and continuously vies for my attention. Now, I have seized it as my own and am sharing it with you. I have enjoyed working with many art media, including paint, paper, jewelry making, mixed media collage work, and anything that gives my hands the opportunity to articulate a vision.

I am an art and music teacher, which enables me to pass this love of creating along to my fabulous students. A teacher by day and a gypsy artist by night, I hope to emulate a glimpse of the wonderful women that came before me.

I live with my gorgeous and kindhearted teacher hubby, who daily encourages me, supports my dream, emboldens me to unhinge in his laid-back style, and never fails to make me laugh with his dry wit and the insatiable silliness which is reserved for me alone. We have lived abroad and traveled extensively both on our own and as a dynamic duo, soaking in the mystery and appeal of other cultures. Now, we've landed in Northern California where we are happy to have friends and family nearby, a dear kitty named Nebraska Jones, and a baby girl on the way!

I love to create as an expression of how I am made in the image of my Creator and feel that creating is a way to bring glory to God. My work is informed by my love for travel and other cultures, and I bring elements of that Bohemian vibe into most things I design.

With Eliza & Ro, I hope to help women express their own style without a lot of effort. I love a life of simplicity, and I believe accessorizing can allow women to live simply and stylishly. My vintage-inspired jewelry shop with that fabulous mother I told you about, Brass Bohemé, can help too: BrassBoheme.etsy.com

I am often frustrated by consumerism, but I also understand my place in a society. If we must consume, let us support one another on a personal level and encourage each other to create. This is why I love Etsy!

Send me some love on facebook www.facebook.com/ElizaAndRo and I'd be pleased as punch!
