Ellen Ball's Profile

About

Hi! My name is Ellen, and I am a jewelry designer living in the beautiful Foothills region of western North Carolina.

Creativity has always been a constant in my life and from a very early age, I never went anywhere without a sketch pad and pencils. Over the years, that artistic journey has led me to many mediums but in the end, my love runs deep in 3-dimensional art.

For the last seven or eight years, I have experimented with sheet metals and steel, learning how to forge, cold connect, solder and weld. But when I enrolled in a basic jewelry fabrication class in November 2007, the lights and sirens went off! Ever since, jewelry design has been a creative priority with inspiration coming from my favorite contemporary artists and nature. Other than that original class, I am self-taught and continue to learn through reading websites, books and articles as well…

About

Other than that original class, I am self-taught and continue to learn through reading websites, books and articles as well as by talking technique with other artists.

Over the last year, the ups have completely overshadowed the downs...from securing a grant for equipment and being listed in Handmade in America's artist directory to adding retail outlets, it has been incredible. Of course there are studio goals for the next year that include the continued expansion of retail outlets, applying for membership with Piedmont Craftsmen, and moving the studio from the basement to a more appropriate space. There is no doubt that it will be interesting so please stay tuned!

Although jewelry is my main focus, creativity in most everything I do from writing and cooking to parenting and problem solving. As jazz great Miles Davis once said, "I would just wanna be dead if I couldn't create." For me, it is as intrinsically necessary to being as breathing. I cannot imagine life without it.

I invite you to visit my website at www.ellenballstudios.com for more examples of my work, list of retailers, and the event calendar.

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy your visit!
