About

I have been involved in buying and selling antiques for almost 50 years now, and have been selling online for about 15 years.

I have named this site after my Finnish grandmother who died before I was born, but whose name I proudly carry, and from whom I inherited my sisu.

Sisu is a Finnish term loosely translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. However, the word is widely considered to lack a proper translation into any language. Sisu has been described as being integral to understanding Finnish culture. The literal meaning is equivalent in English to "having guts", and the word derives from sisus, which means something inner or interior. My passion for fashion began as a child in the early 50's when I would spend hours pouring over old Eatons and Sears catalogues, dreaming of the day when I would be old enough and rich enough to own a houseful of these elegant items.

Time passes and as I find myself nearing retirement it is time to get serious about clearing out my warehouse of vintage and antique items. My true love is still the 1940's and 1950's fashions, but you will find listed here everything from the Edwardian age to the 1980's.

We live primarily on the prairies of Southern Alberta, but have started to spend our winters in Texas. For this reason, some of my inventory will be located in Canada and some in Texas, and it will not always be possible to combine orders. Whenever possible, I am always glad to.
