There is a reason why Maine's motto is "The Way Life Should Be". There are many reasons for many people, but I like to think that it's all about balance and harmony. It seems strange, as a photographer, to invoke the term harmony. Harmony implies a strong aesthetic value, which also often enhances photography. Over the last 7 years, I have revisited my childhood appreciation of photography along the shores of my hometown of Old Orchard as well as the surrounding Greater Portland community. As an early riser, I have been blessed to observe many remarkable sunrises.

There is a reason why Maine's motto is "The Way Life Should Be". There are many reasons for many people, but I like to think that it's all about balance and harmony. It seems strange, as a photographer, to invoke the term harmony. Harmony implies a strong aesthetic value, which also often enhances photography. As an early riser, I have been blessed to observe many remarkable sunrises.
Almost 11 years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. For the next 10 weeks, she battled the disease while storms dominated our home's skies. As a result, she only watched a handful of sunrises during her fight. The final morning she was with us, clouds covered all of Saco Bay at sunrise, but quickly gave way as the sun burned through in about 20 minutes time. Blue skies covered the beach for her final day with us. She slipped quietly away from us that night, in the presence of her closest family. Her struggles and her love of this beach and the peace she found here became the inspiration for me to capture the boldest, most dynamic sunrises I can from my home. My hope is that those individuals who invest in my work for their homes or as gifts for their friends and family will see strength and hope ignite in their souls. My work is a collaborative effort to preserve harmony. God creates the light, I attempt to capture and preserve it.
