In addition to our own high standards, we are members of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) which promotes ethical business practices and disclosure of all gem treatments, so you can have confidence that our natural gems are mined, cut, and polished with care and in an ethical manner.

Although we work with many types of gemstones as Out of Our Mines® – Lapidary and Beadworks, you’ll see our focus in this shop is on the turquoise family and related stones.

There is something very special about turquoise…it is a stone connected to life! Two of its main components, phosphorous (much of which comes from ancient bone) and water are critical ingredients of life. Oxygen is also a key element, oxidizing the copper to give turquoise its beautiful colors. Turquoise is truly a gem dependent on a life-giving planet…a rarity, not just here on Earth, but throughout the Universe!

Because of this ‘organic’ composition, each locality where turquoise is found imparts its own character on the stone. These places are very special to us…the wide open skies, intense desert wind and sun, and the varied hues of rock landscape visible through naturally sparse desert vegetation…all inspiring to the creative mind. We celebrate the amazing diversity and document the origins of each stone for you so that its history and provenance live on and help your stones maintain their true value.

We hope you will find our stones as inspiring as we do!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us, we’re always happy to help!

Cheers,

Richard and Helen
