My name is Sophia and I make jewelry. My mom is probably the biggest inspiration for my creations. She not only taught me the craft, but she also taught me a sense of what looks good. Our house had a number of antique items, slightly delapidated but loved - a heavy black rotary phone, a shiny brocade couch with wooden arms, a foot powered Singer sewing machine that I saw as more of a toy than a tool. When I combine new materials with vintage materials, I remember the character that old things bring to the slick modern world. I don't believe in completely junking history; I think we can often work it into the present in a meaningful and sometimes beautiful way.
