As a lampwork artist, I made the first Squeedle for my son who has Type I (auto-immune) Diabetes. It was just a fun little character for my son to enjoy. Who knew this would become a way to make contributions to a cure? The octopus design evolved from the feeling that there are multiple "arms" of this disease which constantly have to be dealt with. My son didn't really see the metaphor in the octopus -- he just thought it was fun and cute! He called the little creation, "Squeedle," and the name stuck. When others wanted their own, the Squeedle© evolved into a fundraiser for Type I Diabetes research. Profits from sales go toward finding a cure via the wonderful University of California San Francisco Diabetes Center! Each individually crafted Squeedle has its own unique character.
