Drea Rockett's Profile

About

My name is Drea, and I design and create the jewelry here in FaeriedTreasures!

I've been crafting in one way or another my entire life, it seems. I grew up with a super creative mother and father, who both encouraged me to use my imagination, though I'd have to say my earlier creations were a little more imagination than they were functional.

My love of taking things and making them into something lovely started early, taking apart rotary phones, adding machines and clock radios to construct the mechanics behind my "time machine". The time machine itself was built out of car parts and odds and ends I found behind my dad's wood shop.

It may not have worked, but it didn't stop me from trying!

It may not have worked, but it didn't stop me from trying!

Ever since, I've had the crafting bug. I attended a specialized art school in the later years of high school, and later went on to college for visual arts as well.

I've lived a life of interesting stories, and while I love to spin a good yarn, I also love hearing about other people's lives and adventures.

When I'm not making jewelry or taking pictures, I'm usually spending time with nature. I love the earth and sky, to feel the ocean water nip at my toes is like heaven to me. I've also been known to hang out with squirrels, feed the birds, frolic barefoot in the grass, or just sit under a tree and enjoy the sound of the wind in the thickets.

I also spend a great deal of time with my wonderfully nerdy and sweet husband. We don't have children, but we currently have a co-dependent cat named Edward, a frustratingly independent mouse named Courtney, and a fairly large collection of stuffed animals.

Once again, on May 10th 2010, I was having difficulty breathing, so I went to the hospital ER. Luckily, they couldnt find much wrong with my heart (Its not perfect, but its within normal range) but my lungs were another story. After a bunch of not so fun tests, I was informed that I have pulmonary emboli (PE) which are blood clots in my lungs. While in the hospital, I was also informed that I have diabetes.

Luckily I didnt have to spend much time at the hospital, so they let me go home on blood thinners and home oxygen therapy. It hasn't been very long, but I'd like to think I'm adjusting pretty well to being diabetic. The clots in my lungs will eventually dissipate, and I will be able to get off the oxygen and blood thinners, but the diabetes will stay. I figure with a positive attitude and a lot of work, I'll be healthy someday! :)

On April 13th 2008 I was rushed to the hospital ER unable to breathe. It was then that I found out that I had congestive heart failure. Shortly afterward, due to a hospital accident, I lost the use of my right arm. The doctors were even considering amputation, but my heart was too weak for surgery, so they decided to wait.

It took me a while, but my heart got better, and after about a week, I was starting to be able to move my fingers. A lot of pain and failure, and a few more trips to the emergency room, but as of October 31st 2008, I no longer have congestive heart failure.

I started this shop to give me the motivation to train my arm to "come back". I am pleased to say that for the most part, it worked. My arm has healed quite a bit, though it still has more than a few issues.

Please be assured that your items are lovingly handcrafted by me. With all of my (healed) heart, and with both of my imperfect hands.

"Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the disheveled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame."
