Carole Simcox's Profile

About

I am in the process of becoming a Featured Artist in a book by E. Ashley Rooney and Anne Lee in their newest series of books for Schiffer Publishing, Exploring Fiber Art. The book will be available in 2017/2018.

Creating Fiber Art in its many forms is one of the most fulfilling things of my life. I have done a great deal of research on wool (there are SO many different kinds of sheep's wool); different aspects of professional felting, making pre-felts and using pieces for mosaic inlays, Cobweb felting, Needle felting and professional ways to felt seamless garments.

I have taken courses in Freehand Embroidery and Surface Modification in Feltmaking.

Felting is a green, renewable resource as the wool is shaved from the sheep, llama, alpaca etc. and is grown back again as long as it is done…

Felting is a green, renewable resource as the wool is shaved from the sheep, llama, alpaca etc. and is grown back again as long as it is done humanely. I really love animals and have rescued many cats, so it is important to me that the animals I get my wool from are treated with love and kindness. The small companies I purchase from are very loving with their animals and one of them even sends me pictures of her bunnies, alpacas and sheep :)

I have been knitting since I was 13 years old. My grandmother taught me how in the British method. I took a class to learn Fair Isle knitting much later and that is one of my favourite ways to show colour in knitting. I've been making my knitted items with my own designs for some time now.

About me: I'm an animal activist and have saved many feral and semi-feral cats. I volunteered at a cat shelter locally for a year or so. I love the ocean and have a Mother Earth Spirituality. I'm an Herbalist and a Reiki practitioner on my husband, myself and the cats. I used to volunteer at the Battered Women's Shelter, was a Legal Secretary for 10 years and more recently a Professional Makeup Artist for Film and TV for 10 years.

I have had another shop on Etsy for over five years now where I express my love of vintage/antique in recycled and new design clothing, vintage articles and accessories at www.amberdark.etsy.com. Thank you :)
