About

Welcome to my Etsy shop. Thanks for stopping by.

Growing up, our house was filled with all the trappings of its creative inhabitants. There were closets overflowing with bags and boxes of fabric and yarn. Desk drawers stuffed with colored pencils, bits of paper, and watercolor paint. A basement and shed chock full of lumber, nails, parts and pieces of machinery and other useful "stuff". Everywhere else there were examples of the finished products of these creative pastimes (obsessions?). On the walls hung my mom's sketches and drawings in between the bookcases and cabinets built by my dad. Over the chairs and couches lay my nana's hand knit afghans. On our backs there were more of her hand knit sweaters and my mom's hand sewn clothing. All made with love by loving hands.

Growing up in a home like this it was hard not to have some creativity rub off. In the small segments of time when my nose wasn't plastered in the pages of a book, or I wasn't outside playing in the woods, I tried my hand at all types of handwork from sewing to crewel embroidery, needlepoint, rug hooking, cross-stitch and knitting. In 2008, I was laid off after working in the Survey / Engineering industry for over 25 years and decided to turn my hobbies into profit and start a more fulfilling, creative business combining my love of knitting and the natural world. I incorporated my technical background and math skills into the designing of hat patterns. Thus, my business, Fiddlestyx™, was born.

All of my hats are designed and hand knit by myself in my smoke-free, pet friendly home. I have recently added a line of hand knit bunnies which are adapted from a pattern by Fuzzy Mitten. (My husband calls them my Little Bunny Foo Foo's) I find inspiration all around me here on beautiful Cape Cod. The sea, my garden, nature trails, and, yes, even the summer tourists are a constant source of fresh color combinations and patterns. My husband is my computer expert, sounding board, and staunch supporter. My cat and dog help out too, usually by chewing on my expensive wooden knitting needles.

I love to use luxury natural fiber yarns such as organic cotton, soft alpaca, and wool in my knitting. I feel they are superior to synthetics for lasting heirloom quality and much better for the environment.

Feel free to contact me if you see something you'd like but in a different size or color or just to say hi. I don't have time (or space!) to keep too many finished hats in stock so most of my hat designs are made to order. My bunnies are each unique, ready to ship, and, therefore, one-of-a-kind.

My finished items are only available here in my Etsy shop and at an upscale children's boutique in Osterville, MA called "Pocket full of Posies". Stop by their store if you are in the area; they have loads of unique items.

You can purchase my patterns here on Etsy or on Ravelry at http://www.ravelry.com/stores/fiddlestyxstudios

Look for them at your local yarn shop coming soon!
