Kate Swan's Profile
Fierce Deer began as a poem, turned into a novel, inspired a dream to design jewelry, and became a small way I try to add beauty and mystery to the world.
Inspired by an artist I met at the Mauerpark Flea Market in Berlin, in 2011 I began making jewelry. Since then, I have been exploring a variety materials including naturally-shed deer antlers, crystals, fool’s gold, brass, vintage stampings, flower petals, and bone. The emphasis in my designs is on animality, femininity, and geometry. Most of my work is dedicated to my small, deaf cat: August Blonde.
Many of my pieces tell a story about my past, people I know, animals I meet, and books I read. My creative work is inspired by childhood obsessions and questions. For me, these took the form of an extensive collection of tiny things. I now make art out of tiny things. I hope you will like them…
