Hi! Thanks for stopping by. :) I've loved vintage my whole life. The pieces sold in Figs and Steel are curated in a variety of ways. Thrift shops, estate sales, personal collections, and pieces from family.
Figs and Steel is named in honor of my grandpa. A member of the greatest generation who believed in an honest day's work and using something until it could no longer be used. He went to work every day at the steel mill to provide for his family. Every day his lunch was packed with a sandwich and Fig Newtons. As a kid, I always knew he would have a package of those odd, but yummy, sweet-filled cookie bars. I had never seen them anywhere else but his house.
Gathering lovely things from the past is, in a way, my attempt to keep the sensibilities of my grandpa's generation alive. It's my way of bringing in extra income for my family while being a stay-at-home mom, extending the usefulness of items precariously close to the landfill, and justifying my love of thrifting.
Besides having a fondness for curating vintage, I'm also an artist and a maker. Figs and Steel was opened in summer 2013 as a spin-off from my original Etsy store, Kamiann. Visit https://www.etsy.com/shop/Kamiann was the outlet for my line of handmade clothing, accessories and home decor.
