Liana's Profile

About

Liana Martin has spent her life in love with nature and wildlife, incarnating them through her creations.

"Living and working with animals all my life has brought a variety of co-habitants into our house," says Liana. "Some of these came from jobs that I had, such as the zoo, veterinary clinics, and pet shops. Others either found us and took up residency or my boys brought them home."

These are the inspirations of some of Liana's art works - a leaping frog, a ray of light an outline of a starfish.

While attending Kennesaw State University, in Kennesaw, Georgia, Liana discovered clay and found that she could express her love of nature in an art for. "Living and working with animals all my life has brought a variety of co-habitants into our house," says Liana. "Some of these came from jobs that I had, such as the zoo, veterinary clinics, and pet shops. Others either found us and took up residency or my boys brought them home."

While attending Kennesaw State University, in Kennesaw, Georgia, Liana discovered clay and found that she could express her love of nature in an art for. Shortly thereafter, she was introduced to glass and began by making beads, which quickly expanded into glass fusing. "I was hooked," she says. "I learned to combine both torch and kiln work to create unique pieces, as my natural curiosity leads me to constantly experiment to see what would happen if . . . "

Liana relocated back to Florida in 2000 and founded the Suncoast Glass Guild for glass artists on the Gulf Coast. In 2002, she opened her own studio, Firebug Designs, in Venice, Florida, and currently creates fused art pieces and instructs in glass art classes full time.

Her passion for teaching, creating with people, learning and glass art making in her working studio environment brings her the greatest joy.

"Each day I marvel at the fluid nature of glass," says Liana. "I feel fortunate that I found a way to combine my two passions, nature and glass, into an art form that I can share with others."
