Robilee McIntyre's Profile

About

Hi... My name is Robilee McIntyre and I make art. All kinds of art. I guess I am one of those people who were definately born to do one particular thing. My thing is art.

I have worked in every media. I have had so many lives as an artist. After over thirty five years working as an artist I am at the turning place where I am the artist formally known as starving...har.

I have two seperate studios that I work in. One is FuzzyLightbulb Studio and the other is House of Flowers studio. Fuzzy and Lightbulb were my fathers knicknames in college. I guess he was furry and lit up with ideas...when he died from complications of HIV in 1996 i immediately named my studio after him and i have been working under that name since then. I have made all sorts of fabulous things as FuzzyLightbulb...I have made found object sculpture with wire…

I guess he was furry and lit up with ideas...when he died from complications of HIV in 1996 i immediately named my studio after him and i have been working under that name since then. I have made all sorts of fabulous things as FuzzyLightbulb...I have made found object sculpture with wire and fabric for years. I am not sure how to categorize them , even after all of these years. Are they art dolls? Are they sculpture? These sculpture are elaborate and time consuming. They each have a kinetic component, I love the juxtaposition of their weight held up seemingly impossibly by thin wire. I am a bug about making sure that they are sturdy and well made, I would love it if they were found intact on an architectural dig in a thousand years! I have a funny sense of humor, this i inherited from my father who i miss dearly, which spills onto my sculptures very often. Sometimes I work on the dark side... exorcising demons from my past I guess....I love the light and the dark, the good and bad, the beautiful and the ugly. I believe that I need one to illuminate the other.
Recently my mother passed on as well. Boo hoo. In her honor I started making porcelain houses and adorning them, festooning them really, with flowers. Houses of flowers. My mother loved a song by Harold Arlen called house of flowers and was forever asking me to interpret that song into art. Only after her death did I really start making the good stuff. pppfffbbblt.
I started working in clay over twenty years ago while living in a warehouse loft that i renovated my self. I even sandblasted it! There is a clay store on the bottom floor of that building even still. Dennis and Mary have patiently taught me - answering my questions over and over with extreme patience...Dennis has a missing grandson named Jaliek and you can find out more about that here http://www.amw.com/missing_children/case.cfm?id=50696 . This is a link to the pottery store too http://www.northeastceramicsupply.com. At first i just painted premade things, and it wasnt long before i was making my own stuff. I love how the clay feels in my fat little paws. Especially the English porcelain that i am using now. Soooo smooth and buttery. Challenging to be sure.

So here i work, in my very own studio on a lovely street in a once booming town. I work in found objects and porcelain clay with some art dolls thrown in...My delightful african grey Rowdy is my steady companion and I bring my blind black female pug OOdie with me most days too. The studio has high ceilings and tons of character. I have been glad to add mine to the mix. And I am happy, as always making art.
You can find more art and lots more pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/fuzzylightbulbproductions/.

Thanks for reading all of this i could ramble on for decades :)
