Irene's Profile

About

For many years I made stained glass panels as a hobby. But I felt uncomfortable with working with toxic lead solder and lead fittings. Therefore, I switched to glass beads. Glass beads are beautiful, varied, portable and easily recycled.

My inspiration for form comes from nature. My palette of colors is inspired by centuries of oil paintings and stained glass. I toy with chiaroscuro (concentrating intense color and shapes in the middle, fading to the edges), sfumato (using a variety of tones, textures or coatings), using complementary and contrasting colors to make focal beads pop, clusters, ideas from landscaping/floral arrangement, etc.

It is just exquisite! The photographs don't do it justice. Your workmanship is extraordinary and the feel of the cool glass against my skin is so soothing."

As an artist, I'm interested in bridging the gaps between art and science, science and religion, poetry and business, East and West, mind and body, reason and emotion, male and female, thought and action. I've worked very hard to have good reasons behind every design detail.

Lately, I am simplifying and decluttering. All the vintage items in my store I originally bought for my own use. Recycling objects is best for the environment.
