About

Hello folks! First a little about myself I suppose. My name is Ashley and I tend to compose my life into many little (and sometimes huge) "to do lists". It seems to be the only way I can stay organized, and remember the myriad of things I need to do. In addition to my love of lists, I have always had a love of reading, writing, drawing, journaling, and anything involving paper and various writing utensils!

I have always been a bit of a spaz when it comes to creating art. I have a tendency to jump in and out of various crafts (just ask my husband who has lovingly supported my ever growing crafting collection). This was a large part of my thought process when I originally set out to make a shop. What will I make? And what would I make that I would be happy making over and over again? While I dabble in jewelry-making, drawing, collage, knitting, cross-stitch, and encaustics none of these really…

While I dabble in jewelry-making, drawing, collage, knitting, cross-stitch, and encaustics none of these really sufficed as a shop specialty (not to say they may not pop up on the shop from time to time!).

But journals! Now that is something that makes me very very happy. I have found myself collecting journals ever since I was a kid. I love the various cover designs, stitching, paper, and the smell of a book! I eventually came ot the point where I decided (rather then looking for a journal that really captured who I was) I would just make my own! Hence my journey to create Going to Ground.

Going to Ground is a term originally coined by my brother, and something we have used in conversation to describe our process of finding serenity. Going to Ground... definition(s): (1) to quiet the world around you, (2) to go back to the basics, and (3) to rediscover God and oneself though nature.

Being a counselor (and full time student) offers it various rewards and challenges, and I am continuously learning about the importance of self-care and stress management in my day to day life. Going to Ground has become a labor of love, and a reflection of my own grounding experiences.

In today's times we live in a world that is fast-paced, hectic, and unpredictable. Taking time to stop and breathe can become an effort with everything that is going on around us.... that is why sometimes, we must create our own serenity. This is my serenity!
