About

Hi, I am Patti and welcome to Gramma’s Gifts. I grew up thinking I wanted to paint my days away, but life got in the way and along the way I picked up a crochet hook and wonderful things happened.
I grew up in Burbank, Illinois just south of Midway Airport. Quiet 50’s suburb where all the houses and families seemed the same, except we had a Gramma living with us.outside of Midway Gramma is where I learned to crochet and she is my mentor while the grandkids are my inspiration.

Naming the shop was a given, Gramma’s Gifts to me are too many to list from family values and daily nurturing to the crochet classes taught by her knee. After my kids were grown we moved to rural Wisconsin where my plan was to be on permanent vacation mode. Married now 40 years with 5 grown kids and 14 wonderful, sometimes tiring but always amazing grandkids.
I crochet hats and sweaters and cozy items for the whole family. My animal hats would be my signature items, and with fourteen grandkids there is always a new request.
I mainly use 4 ply yarns so the hats are washable, durable and very kid friendly. It also helps me to keep costs down so more people can enjoy the fun hats and items from my shop.
When the kids come to me with an idea I first sketch it out and then go back to a basic hat and add the features and extras until…abracadabra there it is . Some days I think Gramma has her hand in it because I amaze myself. A basic hat may take a day or two while sweaters and blanket and such can take up to a week or two depending on how busy I am.
I crochet a little pinafore from a pattern my Gramma used for all the girls in our family. She would make up back to school boxes and with each homemade dress was a matching pinafore that made that dress even more special. Each little pinafore I finish is like having her around and passing the love on. I have now found her Christening gown pattern and am passing on the beautiful keepsake to new Moms to share with their families as we did.
I am not sure how much different my crocheting is from other shops but maybe it is the purpose for my crocheting, I have Myasthenia Gravis and my number one trigger is stress so, to keep my stress levels at bay I crochet. Why do I have stress at my age? I am raising two teenage grandkids and helping with two preschool great grandson, the light of my life. Stress just happens!
The most enjoyable part of making these cute hats and items is actually seeing them on someone, enjoying the smiles one of these silly hats brings to others. Being able to make custom orders has given me the change to socialize a bit more with customers and get a feel for what they really want, I have made many new connections from the hats and enjoy the new friendships. With the coming of the new year I have once again started to paint and have added new handpainted items to the shop.
To see our return policies and how we ship you can check our policy section and as with anything in the shop if you have any questions, please feel free to email us
Some questions that arise frequently are, how many sizes do the hats come in, washing instructions, do we drop ship, how long would a custom ordere take and where can they find us at shows.
We do ship directly to a gift recipient for you with an enclosed card for the occasion, and gift wrapping is also available.
The fastest way from Etsy to reach us would be a quick convo, we also have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/GrammasGifts , Twitter @GrammasGifts and a Blog http://pattibear.blogspot.com
We made three visit to NBC15 in Madison with our fu hats and baby items , and were seen on The daily Buzz in Madison when Emmy Fink came out to our shop to see all the great items.
