Mati Fuller's Profile

About

I was born in a dark and rainy place, way up north, in Bergen, Norway. In the summer, the sun never goes down, but the whole winter is dark. Dark when you wake up, dark when you get home, pitch black, cold and wet.

The good thing about this blackness is that you have to become creative if you don't want to go crazy. So, I learned to knit at about 7 years of age, I started making x-mas presents for the whole family in July every year, and creativity became so much who I am that now I am always in some kind of creative flow...

My name is Mati H Fuller. By trade I am a certified esthetic clinician, a homeopathic healer, an author of two books and the founder of Green Beauty Cosmetics, a line of natural cosmetics products made without toxic chemicals.

I lived in Norway for my first 26 years or so, and then I immigrated to America and settled in Colorado. Because I am of Scandinavian descent, my skin has always been naturally thin, delicate and somewhat sensitive with a tendency for dryness and wrinkles (common in northern countries). In addition, I also suffered severe frostbite when I almost froze to death in the mountains in my late teens, and as a result, my cheeks turned into rough red patches that burned and cracked every time the weather turned cold. This started my search for the perfect skin cream, and I tried dozens of different brands over the years. Eventually, the skin on my cheeks improved, but when I hit menopause, the dryness came back, and more wrinkles showed up around my eyes.

This time, I went for the anti-aging creams with different types of exotic ingredients, like alpha-hydroxy acids, peptides, collagen, hyaluronic acid and anti-oxidants, and what a disappointment most of them were!

I discovered that the collagen cream I was using actually contained no collagen at all, the alpha-hydroxy acid was suspended in propylene glycol which is another word for anti-freeze, and who knows what amount of peptides the anti-aging creams contained! It could have been minimal amounts! All I know is, they didn't make any visible improvements to my skin, and the thing that all these creams had in common was that they were full of toxic, carcinogenic or DNA-altering chemicals that could compromise my health, including the so-called "organic" creams! I was shocked to find that a skin care product only has to contain 70% organic ingredients to be qualified as organic. The rest can be pure poison, and it is still fine to call the product "organic" and charge more money!

When I discovered this, I felt deceived and disappointed! Why should companies take advantage of my desire to preserve my youthfulness a little longer by selling me hyped up toxic products that could jeopardize my health? I felt that my trust was betrayed every time I was fooled into buying one of these products, and that something had to be done! Because I believe that you have to BE THE CHANGE you want, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own natural cosmetics line as a truly natural alternative to toxic skin care products, and I called it Green Beauty Cosmetics.

Since I studied chemistry in my early days and I worked in different hospital labs as a lab technician for 2 years, I felt that I had enough experience to pull it off. I also took an advanced skin care course from Victoria Rayner which gave me the title "Esthetic Clinician" before I started developing the products.

Making skin care products are really fun - a little bit of this, a little bit of that...I know what I want the finished product to be like. The trick is to figure out how to make it so, to get the right feel, texture and smell, and the biggest challenge of all in natural cosmetics formulation - how to make a stable solution! To check for stability, I bring my products with me to the swimming pool and let them sit in my hot bag for hours, and if they don't separate, then I know I have a good product (just, don't try this at home...)

Since I started making Green Beauty Cosmetics products, I have used only my own skin care products, and my skin has greatly improved. It is no longer dull, dry or rough, the sebum production has normalized, the texture has improved and the lines around my eyes are less apparent. Therefore, I feel that the time has come to share these products with the rest of the world, and even though the products are suitable for any skin type, I feel that they are especially beneficial for extra dry, mature or menopausal skin.

Please feel free to email me about what products that would be best for your particular skin type. Personally, I use most of my products on a daily basis, and if the weather is cold, or the wind is blowing, I layer them on top of each other to protect the skin even more. The drier the skin, and the colder the weather, the more layers you need.
