About

Tyler Benjamin--currently an undergraduate student at Bowling Green State University--is majoring in biology and specializing in conservation and ecology. He plans to integrate his degree with a passion for photography to discover a career in environmental photography. Although Benjamin grew up Findlay, Ohio, already he has pursued travel in Europe as a young professional and has studied/photographed varied landscapes on regular personal and academic (GeoJourney with BGSU) trips around the United States.

Based in Bowling Green, Ohio, Benjamin balances class work with the time needed to build a professional portfolio. Additionally, he seeks new ways to combine his educational interests with his photographic skills. As a biology student, he focuses on the fundamental nature of the environments he visits. As a photographer, the most important value underlying his work is to find in nature the scenes, imagery, visual language that inspire in others the protection and ethical treatment of the natural world. Since he is enthusiastic about collaboration with other artists, he hopes to join projects that bring the environment into sharper focus for public discourse.

Awards and honors for his photography include an honorable mention in both the international 2009 New York Photo Awards and the 2009 Nature’s Best Photography, Windland Smith Rice International Awards. Benjamin has also given presentations on his work at such local venues as the Hancock Park District Photography Contest public recognition event, the University of Findlay beginners and advanced photography class, and his Owens Community College gallery opening.
