About

This shop existed for nine years as Gurley's Goods, primarily selling iPhone and iPad cases. After a prolonged hiatus, the shop has finally returned with a new, more fitting name: Alice & Ida.

Why Alice & Ida? I'd love to tell you. My mother, Alice, taught me to sew at the age of 7. She was a lifelong professional sewing instructor, designer, and clothing business owner with her best friend. She could sew anything, from intricate quilts to clothing. Her passion and skill for sewing were passed on to me, and we shared many great experiences over the art and craft of sewing.
Ida was my nana, Alice's mother. She was a crocheter and cross-stitcher, but even more than that, Nana loved to have fun. She made sure her granddaughters had the best time whenever we were with her. Nights at the bingo hall, skee ball on the Ocean City boardwalk, and playing…

Nights at the bingo hall, skee ball on the Ocean City boardwalk, and playing games on Saturday mornings while watching cartoons and eating corn flakes are some of my favorite childhood memories.

Alice & Ida have passed on, and this shop has been named to celebrate the spirit of the two women who taught me the technical skills and passion for sewing and the importance of enjoying life.

Aside from creating fiber goods, I work as a specialist supporting special education teachers and students in Seattle. When I'm not working and sewing, I'm out trying to have as much fun as possible, which, also, often involves sewing.
