Welcome!
Bienvenidos!

Thanks for stopping here to find out more about me and my shop. We have just moved out of Saigon, Vietnam were we lived from 2011 to 2015. My family and I had a wonderful time living there. I had a beautiful sewing room that I will miss so much. We are now in the States for few months until we move to our next post. Part of my sewing room will arrive in September to Arlington, Virginia so by the end of September I will be able to resume custom orders and start getting ready for Christmas sales!! Please stay tuned!

Our family has grown from 3 to 5! In December 2012 we became parents to twin boys: Henry and Isaac. Our lifes are now filled with chaos but very happy moments. Bubba is now a big brother. Since 2011 our home has been in Ho Chi Minh City or better known as Saigon in Vietnam…

After that we still do not know yet where our gypsy live will take us to....

Thanks for stopping here to find out who is behind this world of stitches. My name is Isabel Maria. I was born and raised in Ecuador, a beautiful country in South America. I went to live in the United States in 2000 after marrying a wonderful American man that I met in my country while he was a Peace Corps Volunteer there.

My love for sewing began when I was a little girl. My mother was a professional seamstress, so it was hard not to notice all the fabric, thread, patterns and sewing machines around my house --and it was even harder not to fall in love with it all. Since my very first project I have not stopped sewing. As a little girl, I discovered the incredible feeling of creating something with my own hands. Later in life, I continued that passion and got a degree in Fashion Design from the Technological University of Quito-Ecuador. After graduation, I had the opportunity to make period costumes for the City Museum of Quito. Later, I had a small business making clothes that I designed, hand painted, screen printed, and sewed, which I sold to tourists in the Galapagos Islands. In the United States, I worked for the Washington National Opera in the Costume Department where I learned even more about sewing techniques --and opera of course! It was a great experience.

I now find myself in Etsy next to all these incredible artists with amazing ideas. I just want to share my love for sewing, have fun creating new things, and share my passion with lots of people. "I believe that handmade items bring a special energy to the maker and to the one who receives it".

My husband, our beautiful Boston Terrier "Bubba", our miracle twin boys and I will be traveling every few years to live in different parts of the world. We lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 2007-2010 then we went back to the United States for a year and in 2011 we moved to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam! My sewing machines and sewing room will be traveling as well --thus the name of my shop, the GypsyTailor!
