Dave Cox's Profile
Welcome. You have wandered into the shop of an old box maker.
I employ techniques in my craft that are hundreds of years old. My style of box is called a “tine” in Norway and “svespask” in Sweden.
The box sides are formed by boiling thin strips of wood, then bending them around a form. After the sides dry they are laced with root of cane.
A bottom is cut, fit, then held in place with wooden pegs.
A lid is cut and fit to the box, it may be held in place by notched latching posts, depending on the box style.
The woods I use are selected for beauty and bend ability. I also work with Siberian birch bark. The bark from Siberia is very thick and works well for box…
