Christine Teir's Profile

About

I’m Christine, a twenty-something year old living in Huntsville, Alabama, and I currently take photographs and make soap. I’m a student majoring in Aerospace Engineering, although I am highly considering changing majors to Meteorology, as I’ve wanted to be a meteorologist since I was an itty bitty little girl.

Photography: My father and grandfather are surely to blame for my interest in photography, with a darkroom in my grandparents’ basement and old camera gear scattered about. My grandfather and I would spend hours going through old photo albums, and I always found the composition of the photos fascinating. As a little girl, I was given permission to use an old Polaroid instant camera of theirs, and fell in love.

Photography has come in handy for me on a different level over the years. I have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, and often have trouble with anxiety and expressing myself. However, I feel safe behind a camera, and photography has allowed me to show friends and family how I view things, even if it’s through abstract means. I’ve slowly become more open to sharing these things, and am now happy to offer prints of some of my favorite photos so others can enjoy them as much as I have.

Bath and Body Goodies: After making soaps, bath salts, body butters, and numerous other things over Christmas to give as gifts to everyone, my friends and family have urged me to make more and try my hand at selling some of my creations. The process provides a benefit for myself as well; I have very awful clinical depression, but soapmaking has given me a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and has kept me on a healthy schedule. It’s made me genuinely happy, and hopefully I can pass some of that happiness along in my products.

All my soaps and bath items are made in single small batches, completely by me, to ensure optimal quality. I am very OCD about what I put into my products, so if I receive an ingredient that is sub-par or just feels off, I refuse to use it. On that same note, I don’t like smearing weird chemicals or unknown ingredients on my body (who does?), so everything I use is completely natural and I thoroughly research the sources of my ingredients to make sure I’m getting the highest quality oils, butters and botanicals possible. In some cases, the ingredients come straight from my garden in the backyard. Everything is tested on myself as well, so if my super sensitive skin says no to something, it definitely will not be offered for sale.
