Marsha Wiest-Hines' Profile

About

Personal adornment and expression of character through clothing has been a life-long interest of mine. I have been creating wearable art for 40 years in the form of theatrical costumes for the stage, competition clothing for ballroom dancers, and most recently, art jewelry and accessories.
In 2007 I discovered bead weaving and fell immediately in love. My work is more than jewelry, and meant for confident women who appreciate wearable art. I consider your decision to purchase and display one of my weavings to be the final step in the process of artistic expression.
My weavings are made with needle and thread, one tiny bead at a time, a process both labor intensive and meditative.

I am influenced by the ever-changing Minnesota landscape, my experience with interpreting character and ideas in clothing as a costume designer, and by the amazing beauty of the tiny bits of glass and natural objects I use in my pieces. I like lush, eclectic details, components that move with the wearer, and facets that catch and reflect light.
Haute is a French term, literally “high.” It is synonymous with exclusive work of top quality; the perfect materials, careful preparation, and obsessive attention to detail. Ice is slang for jewelry, especially the sparkly sort. I like the idea of “hot ice” as well, and enjoy contrast and surprise in my work.
Haute Ice Beadwork is intricate, theatrical, and timeless.
