Clint and Roxy's Profile

About

Howdy, we are Clint & Roxy, or Roxy & Clint, or The Weird Folks in the Little House by the School.
We live in a community of 100 people in the Big Hole Valley in Southwest Montana. We like to joke that Wisdom's motto should be "70 Miles from Anywhere!" But our isolation has advantages, we have a market, a post office, a garage, two bars (one makes the best pizza ever, the other has a full restaurant) one tourist trap, 2 hotels, a laundromat, a Masonic hall and a K-8 school (16 students).
We also have access on all sides to gorgeous mountain ranges, national forest, lakes, creeks (pronounced "cricks") and of course the Big Hole River itself runs just outside of town.

We spent most of last year getting moved into our 100 year old house. We have a lot of work still to do, the living room ended up being the only room we completed last year…

We have a lot of work still to do, the living room ended up being the only room we completed last year.
This year we have to:
Take down our kitchen ceiling, before it falls on our pointy little heads.
Build shelves in our new shed. Organizing! Woo!
Gut, insulate and rebuild the shop, so Clint doesn't freeze his butt off out there when it's 30 below.
Put in a garden, which will have to be all in hoop houses or cold frames, because it regularly gets into the 20s at night all through the summer.

Once our move was complete we decided to go full time on our business, and now we are wondering why we didn't quit the rat race sooner!
I, Roxy, initially started the Etsy store as a venue for what I was sure were going to be the most amazing bags and purses that anyone had ever beheld! You can see how that worked out, my bestselling product picked me instead. I am now the Tool Roll Maven. I think everyone should have quality rolls to protect their investments, and I try to offer traditional, colorful and some downright funky options.
Clint was able to join in the fun once we moved out of our apartment (leather work is NOISY) and has been enjoying experimenting with the new knife venture. He has coveralls and a respirator! He gets to look cool while using power tools! He doesn't do trendy, he doesn't do odd materials. He likes solid, attractive wood or horn. He works with good steel. He wants to make knives that are practical and will last, that they are attractive is a bonus.

This is such a huge change for us! We met nearly 20 years ago in a recording studio. We were both session musicians on an album of Buddhist rounds for children (long story).
A few years later we decided to team up and started a new band. We did the bar scene, swore off ever playing New Year's Eve again, and got paid bupkes. Then we got on with a national touring bowling tournament, as the souvenir video and photo managers. We lived in Knoxville, TN and Reno, NV before returning to Montana in 2007.
Clint retired due to illness in 2009, and I started work as an industrial seamstress that same year. It was shortly after that, that the Etsy store came to be, and now it is our full time gig. We love what we do. We love where we live. Every day is an exciting new adventure, and we can't wait to see what our first full time year brings.
