Kate Mahoney's Profile
I just love colour and fibre - and I love making unique handcrafted items. I have crafted all my life, and have a particular love for wool, brought about by a long-lasting obsession with a much-loved blanky when I was a baby. These days I'm a bit more sophisticated! Mostly I dye fibre for other crafters, but I also spin, knit crochet and make felt.
Living in the rural South Island of New Zealand, I'm spoiled with the fibre choices available to me. I've been very lucky in finding boutique providers of rare and wonderful fibres such as the very beautiful 'Haunui' NZ Halfbred wool, which comes from a single flock not far away from me. If you're not familiar with this breed, it blends the best qualities of Merino and Romney, and is wonderfully soft and wearable.
I also have in hand some intriguing appaloosa natural coloured alpaca and kid mohair…
