“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” – Thoreau

For years I have had this quote pinned next to me on my desk. For most of my "work life" I worked at a desk job and dreamed of doing something creative, and lasting. With Hilltop Paper Studios, I am pursing the direction of my dreams.

Although my options for doing something creative were endless, the choice was really quite simple; for years I had been hoarding scrapbook paper and my husband “suggested” I do something with it. Thus, Hilltop Paper Studios was born.

I come from a long line of letter writers. The letters in the background of my shop banner are letters my dad received from his mother while he was in the Army. “Back in the day”, as my kids love to say, letter writing was the only way to communicate what was going on back home, news of the family, what the weather was like. My Grandma must have written hundreds of letters to her sons during WWII, as she had three of them serving our country. Tragically, my dad was the only one who returned. I treasure these letters, as well as the ones my dad wrote to his brothers. I have yet to delve into the boxes of letters my mom and dad wrote to each other during their courtship; it may be years before I can.

Today, we are bombarded with forms of communication. I hope to do my small part to bring letter writing back into the forefront. I write to my kids a couple times a month, nowhere near as often as my Grandma did to her sons. But, I do know for a fact that my kids keep all of the cards and letters I send. And I know they enjoy getting a handmade card in the mail. So, Hilltop Paper Studios is here to help you create a shoe box full of memories. Whether they are heartfelt, emotional notes, or simply a story about your cat or the snowstorm last week, write it down, in your handwriting, and send it out. The cards I make are not big; you don’t need to write a novel. Just do it!

My hope is that years from now your special message to will be pulled out of some old, dusty, musty smelling shoe box, re-read, and once again the love you originally sent will be remembered.
